En dat kan natuurlijk ook in de verleden tijd.

There was a mistake in this text (vorm van to be in de verleden tijd)
There could be a mistake in this text (hulpwerkwoord + be)

En het kan ook vragend of ontkennend.

Verkeerd Gebruik van Er

In het Nederlands kan er met veel verschillende werkwoorden worden gebruikt. Maar in het Engels zijn de mogelijkheden veel beperkter (zoals bij A1+ gezegd: uitsluitend met to be, eventueel voorafgegaan door een hulpwerkwoord). De meest gemaakte fout is dat er wordt gebruikt in onpersoonlijke constructies. In het Engels is dan een concreet onderwerp nodig, zonder there.

Er wordt een nieuw huis gebouwd - there is a new house built - we/they are working on a new house (we/they is het concrete onderwerp)
Er moeten updates worden gedownload - there must be updates downloaded - updates must be downloaded (updates is het concrete onderwerp)
Er werd gezongen - there was singing - songs were sung (songs is het concrete onderwerp)
Er gebeurde een ongeluk naast de school - there happened an accident next to the school - an accident happened next to the school (an accident is het concrete onderwerp)
Er zal een interview met alle leerlingen gebeuren - there will be an interview with all students - all students will be interviewed(all students is het concrete onderwerp)
Er werd een beslissing genomen hem te ontslaan - there was made a decision to fire her - a decision was made to fire her (a decision is het concrete onderwerp)

Een zin zoals "Er wordt gezegd..." gebruikt in het Engels ook geen there.

Er wordt gezegd dat zij goed is in wiskunde - there is said she is good at mathematics - it is said / they say that she is good at mathematics
